Speed can determine the severity of crash injuries

On Behalf of | Oct 7, 2025 | Car Accidents |

Speeding has always been a leading cause of fatal crashes. However, the problem of speeding is becoming increasingly serious – in no small part because more drivers are going over the speed limit by a significant amount. Many drivers have been caught going over 100 miles per hour (mph).

It’s simple physics that the faster a vehicle is traveling, the greater the impact will be if it strikes another vehicle (let alone a pedestrian or bicyclist). If two speeding vehicles collide, that impact is magnified.

Some numbers have improved in recent years

A study by Tennessee’s Integrated Traffic Analysis Network (TITAN) found that the number of total crashes involving “speeding, racing, reckless driving, or aggressive driving” decreased from over 11,700 in 2021 to under 10,000 statewide in 2023. This could be in part because “slow down” campaigns in Tennessee and throughout the southeastern U.S. have put more officers on the road and emphasized the dangers of speeding.

The overall number of traffic deaths in Tennessee dropped 14% in 2024. It is on track to drop again this year unless there’s a spike in the last few months of 2025.

Statistics can be interesting, and they can help people know what the leading dangers are when they’re on the road. However, the only thing that really matters is whether they or a loved one has been involved in a serious crash.

Being struck by a speeding driver can lead to catastrophic injuries. It’s crucial to get the compensation needed to cover medical bills and other short- and long-term expenses and other damages. Turning that responsibility over to an experienced legal team can help victims and their loved ones focus on healing.
